The Home Office: UK Border Agency

eLearning and User Guidance for the Points Based System Programme

The UK Border Agency has recently gone through a period of significant change in it's procedures for managing the migrant population with the launch of the new Sponsorship Management System (SMS).

The Sponsorship Management System is a secure IT system which allows licensed sponsors to apply for permission from the UK Border Agency to bring workers or students into the UK, and the system allows them to keep the agency notified of any changes to the status of their sponsored migrants.

When the implementation of the SMS is fully completed, approximately 100,000 employers and education providers will be able to use the new system.

The logistics of training such a large and disparate audience made the decision to use eLearning and electronic User Guidance an easy one.

4G worked with the PBS Programme Team at Fujitsu to develop and deliver a comprehensive suite of 62 eLearning Lessons and User Guidance, which enables sponsors to practise using the SMS in a safe environment. The lessons simulate the live system, and use real-world scenarios to guide sponsors through each process.

The project was delivered on-time and on-budget against very tight timescales, and 4G was commended for it's work in helping to ensure a smooth transition from the use of paper applications to the new online system.
